Google Cloud cost optimization for engineering and finance teams.
Find out why your Google Cloud bill grew, and what to cut. Sign in with Google and allow read-only access. Omni FinOps reads your billing export, Compute Engine inventory and CPU, explains every jump in plain dollars, and lists the waste with the gcloud command to fix it.
No card. Read-only access. Omni FinOps never changes your cloud.
In this example Google Cloud account, Omni FinOps found 5 savings leads worth $282/mo, ranked by dollars. Each one names the resource, why it was flagged and the gcloud command to fix it.
- etl-worker-2$142/mon2-standard-8, peak CPU 21% for two weeks: rightsize to n2-standard-4
- staging-api$63/moe2-standard-4, env=staging, running 24/7: run weekdays 08:00–20:00
- pd-build-cache$50/mo500 GB pd-balanced, attached to no VM: snapshot, then delete
- snap-orders-db-0412$20/mo400 GB, 270 days old: delete
- ip-legacy-lb$7.30/moStatic IP, reserved and unused: release
What it finds in Google Cloud
Every refresh checks each resource against these rules. A match becomes a lead with its monthly saving, the evidence behind it and the command to fix it. Nothing changes until your team runs it.
- Idle instancesCPU under 5% every day for two weeks. Stop it, or delete it if nothing needs it.Guide
- Oversized instances and databasesPeak CPU under 40% for two weeks. Move to the next size down.Guide
- Dev and staging running 24/7Tagged dev, test, staging, QA or sandbox and running around the clock. Run it weekdays 08:00–20:00 only.Guide
- Unattached volumes and disksAttached to no instance. Delete it, after a snapshot if anyone might need it.Guide
- Old snapshotsOlder than 180 days and backing no image. Delete it once no backup plan needs it.Guide
- Unused public IPsReserved, but attached to nothing. Release it.Guide
How connecting Google Cloud works
There’s no service account to create and no key to paste. You sign in with the Google account that manages billing, and every permission Google shows you is read-only.
- 1Sign in with Google. Use the account that manages your billing. Google lists what Omni FinOps asks for. Allow it, and Omni finds your billing accounts and their projects on its own.
- 2Turn on the billing export, if it’s off. Cost comes from Google’s billing export to BigQuery. Omni FinOps checks whether yours is on and, if it isn’t, opens that one page in Google Cloud and says what to press.
- 3Omni FinOps takes it from there. Google writes the first costs within a few hours, then fills in the rest of last month over the next few days. Omni FinOps finds the export on its own and pulls your costs.
Each refresh runs a few small BigQuery queries on the export, billed to its project. They usually fit in BigQuery’s free monthly tier.
Can read
- See your billing accounts and their projects
- Read the billing export in BigQuery
- List Compute Engine VMs, disks, snapshots, IP addresses and Cloud NAT
- Read CPU from Cloud Monitoring
Can’t
- Create, change, stop or delete anything
- See more than the Google account you sign in with can see
Remove Omni FinOps from your Google Account’s third-party connections and access ends.
Questions about Google Cloud
- Can Omni FinOps change anything in Google Cloud?
- No. It asks for read-only scopes only: Cloud Billing, Compute Engine, Cloud Monitoring and read-only access to your projects. Every lead comes with the gcloud command for your team to run.
- Why does it need the billing export?
- Google only sends cost data to BigQuery once the export is on. Omni FinOps reads the FOCUS export or the detailed usage cost export, whichever it finds, so there’s nothing to change if you already have one.
- Which resources does it check for waste?
- Compute Engine VMs (idle, oversized, or dev and staging running 24/7), persistent disks attached to no VM, snapshots older than 180 days and static IPs nobody uses. Cloud SQL’s cost shows, but its API has no read-only scope, so it isn’t inventoried.
- Which projects does it see?
- The ones the Google account you sign in with can see, under the billing accounts it can see. Sign in with the account that manages billing.
- Does it cost anything on the Google Cloud side?
- Each refresh runs a few small BigQuery queries on the export, billed to its project. They usually fit in BigQuery’s free monthly tier.
- How do I revoke access?
- Remove Omni FinOps from your Google Account’s third-party connections. Omni FinOps can no longer read anything after that.
